Underfloor heating

Heating film TERMOFOL is a thin electric heating element installed under a floating floor. When turned on, electric energy is converted into heat, which is then transferred to a large floor surface.

Thanks to this, the heat source remains completely invisible.

Selection of the system should take into account, among other things, the room area, building insulation, type of flooring, and heat demand.

Choose the appropriate film

How to properly select heating film?

Select the heating film according to heated surface areaplan coverage of a minimum area of the floor, not the entire room. Plan coverage of 70% of the heated areataking into account the interior layout and permanent fixtures.

Plan the arrangement of the foil:

maintain minimum 10 cm spacing from walls and permanent fixtures
leave 1–3 cm gap between adjacent heating foil strips
skip spaces under furniture without legs and fixed installation elements
maintain minimum 15 cm spacing from water pipes, fireplaces, and gas stoves
Do not overlap the heating tapes and do not fold them
Trim the film exclusively in the places marked by the manufacturer.

Remember! The heating film can only be trimmed in places marked by the manufacturer. Choose the length and width of the strips already at the planning stage of the installation.

Insulation and stability under the heated floor

Base TERMOFOL SUPERTERM with a thickness of 6 mm limits heat loss to the substrate and provides stable support for the underfloor heating system. High compressive strength (400 kPa) and insulating properties make it suitable as a layer under heating film TERMOFOL.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can two heating film strips be connected in series?

Yes, two heating film strips can be connected in series. However, they must be treated as a single, longer film strip.

The combined length of both strips must not exceed the maximum permissible length for the given heating film model. Information about the maximum strip length should be checked in the table in the film's installation manual.

Example:

If the maximum length of a single film strip is 8 m:
• 3 m + 4 m = 7 m — can be connected.
• 4 m + 4 m = 8 m — can be connected.
• 5 m + 4 m = 9 m — cannot be connected.

How should conduits for underfloor heating be routed?

In most installations, two separate conduits (protective tubes) should be used:
• One conduit for the cables supplying the heating mat, cable, or heating film.
• A second conduit intended exclusively for the floor sensor.

The floor sensor should be placed in a separate protective tube, capped at the floor-side end. The tube should allow the sensor to be freely removed and reinserted.

For correctly completing this part of the installation, it is best to use the "Floor Sensor Installation Kit". The kit makes it easier to route the protective tube and to position the sensor correctly in the floor.

Thanks to the use of a separate protective tube, in the event of a sensor fault it can be replaced without having to remove the panels, tiles, or the entire floor.

How is underfloor heating controlled?

The thermostat contains a relay that switches the underfloor heating on and off depending on the temperature measured by the sensor and the value set by the user.

Control is carried out in ON/OFF mode, i.e. on a binary basis: the heating is either on or off. Once the set temperature is reached, the thermostat cuts off the power supply, and switches it back on again once the temperature drops.
