General information
The President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) has approved new tariffs for electricity. The price of electricity in 2024 will drop by an average of 31%. The good news is that the freeze on electricity prices will remain in effect until mid-2024.
Who Will Lower Electricity Prices in 2024?
The decision of the URE president concerns individual consumers who have contracts with one of four electricity suppliers in Poland. These are:
PGE Obrót;
Enea;
Tauron Sprzedaż;
Energa Obrót.
In 2024, the price of electricity will be exactly 31.3% lower. This reduction is related to the drops in electricity prices in the wholesale market compared to the levels of contracts made back in 2022.
It is worth noting that on December 15, President Andrzej Duda signed a law aimed at protecting electricity, heat, and gas consumers. The new regulations include provisions regarding maximum electricity prices for households as well as small and medium-sized enterprises. The exact limits can be checked in the text of the law or in official government announcements.
The new law provides for a freeze on electricity prices for electricity, similar to 2023. The regulations will be in effect from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, within specified consumption limits. According to the law, the upper price limit is 412 zlotys per megawatt-hour (MWh).
The legal act also specifies consumption limits for eligible consumers, which are set at 50% of the previous limits. This means a maximum of 1.5 MWh or 2 MWh for individuals running a farm on the date the law comes into effect.
For holders of the Large Family Card, the limit is 1.8 MWh, and for consumers with a significant or moderate degree of disability, it is also 1.8 MWh. Additionally, special pricing rates are provided for family garden plots.
The freeze on electricity prices also includes restrictions on electricity prices for eligible consumers who have signed contracts with a guaranteed fixed price – all within the aforementioned limits.

How Much Will I Pay If I Exceed the Limit?
Household consumers who exceed the established limits during the period from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, will pay the same as last year. The price of electricity in 2024 is planned to be maintained at the previous level of 693 zlotys per megawatt-hour (MWh). This same maximum price applies to municipalities, public utility entities, small and medium-sized entrepreneurs, and farmers.
The information provided by the URE president ends the period of uncertainty for owners of single-family homes who have long been wondering what the electricity prices in 2024 will be. Those who heat their homes using electricity can certainly be pleased. It is different for those who have invested in heat pumps. The upper consumption limit is indeed too low to fit within it.
Where to Apply for the Freeze on Electricity Prices for Households?
The basic limit of 1500 kWh is applied automatically, and no application is required in this regard. Therefore, if you were eligible for the increased limit in 2023, you do not need to submit any declaration this year.
If you have acquired rights to higher electricity consumption this year, you must submit the appropriate application. Each of the electricity suppliers in Poland has separate templates for declarations and applications. Therefore, detailed information should be sought on your supplier's website. General information can also be found on the websites of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.

How to Choose a Heating Mat for a Room? A Practical Guide
Choosing the right heating mat is more important than many investors realize. The selection of an appropriate heating mat should not be based solely on the area of the room. That is why a well-chosen underfloor heating system operates comfortably, efficiently, and energy-saving for many years […]
