Heating a home is a key aspect of any property, especially in light of rising energy prices. In recent years, infrared heaters have gained popularity. Opinions about them testify to the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of these devices. In this article, we will explain what an infrared heater is, how it works, and most importantly, we will answer the question of how much electricity an infrared heater consumes.

Infrared heater – is it worth it?

In light of rising energy prices, searching for effective, eco-friendly, and inexpensive heating methods becomes crucial for many households. An infrared heater is an innovative solution that could be perfect for you!

Trying to answer the question of how much electricity an infrared heater consumes thus becomes essential when deciding on the right heating system. Before we show you how to calculate power consumption, find out why a wall or ceiling infrared heater, that is, a infrared heating panel, is a device worth your attention.

How does an infrared heater work?

An infrared heating panel uses infrared radiation to operate, which is similar to the natural heat emitted by the Sun. When the heater is turned on, its heating elements (made of carbon or quartz) produce infrared radiation that then spreads throughout the room.

A ceiling or wall infrared heater offers various advantages compared to conventional heating devices due to its unique features and adaptability to different installation conditions.

An infrared heating panel is an alternative to traditional systems for several reasons. First, it can contribute to improving indoor air quality, as it does not stir up dust and other pollutants, thus helping to reduce allergens in the air. Secondly, it is often more aesthetic and can be discreetly integrated into interior decor. Infrared heaters are also quiet in operation.

A wall infrared heater or ceiling infrared heater emits heat directly to objects and people in the room, which can contribute to more efficient energy use. This makes infrared heaters more energy-efficient, as they minimize heat loss associated with conduction and convection, delivering heat directly where it is most needed. This technology is increasingly present in homes and offices.

Moreover, infrared heaters start working almost immediately after being turned on. They do not need to operate for long hours to maintain the appropriate temperature in the room. In contrast, traditional heat sources, such as radiators or water underfloor heating, heat the air, which rises to the ceiling. As a result, it ends up at the ceiling, where no one is present. To maintain warmth, convection heating must operate continuously for several hours.

Infrared panels provide even heat distribution. Thanks to direct heat transfer, infrared heaters have the potential for greater energy efficiency compared to traditional heating systems. This, in turn, significantly impacts the level of electricity consumption by infrared heating panels, which is usually lower than that of conventional heaters.

People who decide to switch their system to infrared heating are therefore guided not only by financial aspects but also by appearance, comfort, and safety of use.

But these are not the only advantages of a heat source like an infrared heater. Opinions about these devices often concern their efficiency and savings. It is no wonder that in the case of infrared heating, monthly costs are subjected to expert long-term analyses, which, as it turns out, unequivocally indicate the cost-effectiveness of such a solution.

Infrared heating – monthly costs

Are infrared heaters energy-efficient? Analyzing different types of devices, one can conclude that this technology offers significant benefits in terms of energy efficiency. For example, it is worth considering a infrared heater with a thermostat, as it allows for better energy consumption management. With precise temperature control, users can significantly reduce unnecessary electricity consumption.

Infrared heating – installation cost vs. return on investment

Are you wondering how much electricity you will pay for infrared heating? Electricity consumption by these systems can be easily calculated. It is important to consider various factors, such as: room insulation, size and layout, as well as individual heating needs.

By analyzing the operation of an infrared heater in detail, you may notice that although the initial cost of purchase and installation is higher, long-term savings on energy bills can definitely outweigh the counterarguments regarding investing in this heating system. Ultimately, when considering whether infrared heaters are energy-efficient, it is worth focusing on long-term benefits.

How much electricity does an infrared heater consume?

So how do you calculate potential energy consumption? For example, let's take a heater from the TF-CS 1000 series. This heating panel is designed to heat a room of up to 20 m2 in size. From the information about its power, we can infer that it will consume 1 kWh of electricity for one hour of operation. Assuming that in 2024, 1 kWh of energy in the G11 tariff costs 0.75 PLN, we can perform a simple calculation:

1 kWh of electricity consumption by the heater x energy price equals 0.75 PLN

From the above calculation, it follows that for 5 hours of operation of your infrared heater, you will pay exactly 3.75 PLN. It is clear how economical a device an infrared heater is. Is it worth investing in this technology? You can answer that question yourself!

And what are the monthly costs? This is also easy to calculate if you make the right assumptions. Let's assume that your infrared heater will operate for 8 hours a day as the only source of heat in the room.

1 kWh of heater operation x 8 hours x 0.75.

From the above equation, it follows that you will pay 6 PLN daily for the operation of the infrared heater. Now just multiply this result by the number of days in the month. In this case, the product is 180 PLN for heating the entire room for a month.
