With the development of low-energy and passive construction, individual investors have begun to notice the decreasing efficiency of traditional hydraulic heating systems powered by boilers and functionally connected radiators or water underfloor heating. At the same time, the operating and energy production costs of such heating systems are steadily increasing. The investment costs resulting from the complexity of the aforementioned systems and the multitude of formalities make investing in traditional heat sources unprofitable.
Actual costs of heating a house with electricity
This issue has indicated high costs of heating a house with electricity for years. While it is true that using wall-mounted convector heaters and oil heaters powered by electricity indeed incurs high costs, there is an alternative. Namely, the TERMOFOL electric heating system allows for maintaining high energy efficiency in heating a house while consuming up to 50% less energy compared to traditional electric heating systems. Lower bills are the result of several facts:
- Buildings constructed to the NF15 or NF40 standards no longer require as much energy as poorly insulated buildings built several decades ago. Although heating with electricity is fundamentally more expensive per 1kW than energy from other sources, it gains economic justification for the investor. The annual energy consumption of buildings constructed to new standards is characterized by significantly lower amounts, ensuring cost optimization of electricity bills.
- Traditional convection heating does not prevent numerous heat losses. The transfer of thermal energy from solid or gas fuel to the heat carrier in the form of heating water in the installation, as well as the distribution of the resulting heat in the form of water circulation in the installation, is associated with significant thermal losses. Moreover, radiators do not heat the room evenly (higher temperatures are near the ceiling, while lower temperatures are at the most perceptible level for humans, 1-1.5m). This reduces the comfort of residents. An indirect consequence is also the phenomenon of convection, which stirs up dust from the floor.
- The TERMOFOL system features the highest market efficiency of the heating system (reaching 100% conversion of electrical energy into heat) and low system inertia achieved through precise time and zone control using thermostats. The implementation of intelligent control algorithms allows for reducing costs by 1/4, while ensuring optimal system performance and comfort for residents even when the room temperature is 3°C lower than if the room were heated by a traditional convection system. Moreover, investors are increasingly opting to install solar panels and utilize free solar energy, allowing us to draw from the energy we generate for optimal home heating.
By choosing the TERMOFOL heating system, you do not incur investment costs related to the construction of connections, chimneys, and boiler rooms. During the operation of the system, costly service inspections are not required. In summary, when choosing a heating system during the construction of a new house, it is necessary to perform a cost calculation of investment and operating costs over a period of 25 or 30 years.
Without a doubt, underfloor heating is one of the best ways to ensure thermal comfort in buildings. It has many advantages that competitive solutions cannot guarantee. However, when it comes to underfloor heating, the price may seem quite high to some. This stems from myths that arose at the very beginning of the spread of this technology. We are happy to clarify all issues related to installation costs, materials, and the design of professional underfloor heating.
Underfloor heating - costs dependent on many factors
The preliminary estimate must take into account many factors. This primarily includes the cost of the project, the purchase of insulation materials and installation parts, as well as the heating boiler and controllers (thermostats). As you can see, many elements are responsible for how underfloor heating will function. However, the cost is not fixed. Why? Because materials and devices can vary in price not only depending on the supplier but also on the region in Poland.
Delivery from a place offering a more advantageous purchase does not always ensure reduced expenses. It happens that delivering materials or devices to the specified address will cost – at best – almost the same. In the case of underfloor heating, prices can therefore vary significantly. Especially if one decides to install it themselves, which entails individually searching for tools and materials.
It is assumed that the price of insulation materials should not exceed about 25 zł/m². The pipes through which the medium will be conducted are calculated using running meters. In this case, the price ranges from 2.50 zł to even 11 zł per meter. When it comes to water underfloor heating, the costs of the heating boiler are the most difficult to predict. There are many models on the market, with prices starting from 2500 zł and going up to several tens of thousands of zł.
Heated floor - price of different installations
Two solutions in the field of underfloor heating have gained the most recognition: electric and water. As you might guess, the price between them will differ. For water underfloor heating, the cost can start from 100 zł per square meter and go up to 200 zł. This includes materials and labor. The devices and boiler constitute a separate cost.
In the case of electric installations, one should prepare for a slightly higher expense. The average price per square meter usually ranges between 100 and 150 zł/m² of heated area. Therefore, the total costs of electric underfloor heating are lower than those of water heating. It should be noted that in the electric version of underfloor heating, the costs associated with purchasing a heating boiler and creating a new (or modernizing the current) heating network are completely eliminated. Additionally, we gain extra m² of usable space in the house.
It should also be remembered that there is another type of electric underfloor heating. The cost of heating mats is even more affordable. In this case, there is no need to spend on installation materials or pipes, and self-installation is exceptionally simple.
For this reason, water versions are less popular, although they certainly have their applications. However, most customers choose electric underfloor heating. The price per square meter ultimately does not turn out to be that high.
Electric underfloor heating. Cost of self-installation
Some people decide to install it themselves and acquire all the necessary components. As a result, the costs of electric underfloor heating can decrease by even several, at most 50 zł per square meter. And that is only provided that one finds real bargains in stores. Since labor costs are eliminated, significant savings can be achieved. In the case of heated floors, the price of self-installation should therefore be noticeably lower. However, in practice – unless one has invested in mats – one also needs to purchase tools needed for renovations, which undoubtedly raises the budget for the project.
Electric underfloor heating - cost of installation carried out by professionals
The work of professionals must come at a cost. However, it has undeniable advantages. In the case of underfloor heating, installation prices are currently quite low. This is due to the experience of the installation teams and the advanced tools they possess. Additionally, they always provide a guarantee for correctly conducted installation in the shortest possible time. For this reason, most customers order electric underfloor heating from them. Costs slightly increase, but in return, one receives a reliable, safe, and durable system that ensures thermal comfort. The difference in costs is minimized by the VAT rate, which is 8% for the purchase of products with installation and 23% for the purchase of products alone.
Underfloor heating. Price tailored individually
Companies engaged in the sale and installation of underfloor heating usually offer individual price lists. They can adjust some solutions to the client's expectations (of course, only if it does not harm the quality of execution). That is why it is worth opting for professionally done electric underfloor heating. The price may turn out to be much better than in the case of self-installation. And you will definitely save on time and effort that would need to be put into all the work related to the installation of individual components and design.
If you are interested in professionally designed and executed electric underfloor heating, the cost should not be of major importance. However, there are many companies on the market that, thanks to modern work organization and the best available tools, can offer much more favorable installation prices. Just take a look at the offers prepared by market leaders. In this regard, we particularly recommend our services, which stand out for their excellent price-to-quality ratio. Our installation teams have many years of experience and are coordinated by the implementation department. Choosing a service with installation guarantees the trouble-free operation of the system for many years.
